Note: we deliberately waited more than a month in anticipation of any publication from Pippa Cuckson or other famous journalists about this case. But they are still silent, so we publish this article.

Miquel Vila Ubach is a prominent Endurance rider from Spain. His Endurance career has a solid track record since 1992.

He was the winner of two Endurance championships: in 1999, he won the European championship held in Elvas, Portugal, and in 2006 he won the World Endurance Champion title at World Equestrian Games held in Aachen, Germany.

Now, go back to the future and fast forward to 2017.

On 18 November 2017, Miquel Vila Ubach became the registered trainer of horse TBO JOY. The next day this horse participated in CEI2* 120 km Endurance ride in Pamiers, France. Ridden by another Spanish rider Roger CODINA BAU, this horse won second place with an average speed of 20.3 km/h (the speed at the final loop was 26.2 km/h).

Then, horse TBO JOY has been tested positive with Salbutamol (Controlled Medication Substance). The rider accepted an administrative sanction.

Next, on 30 March 2018, Miquel Vila Ubach by himself started on this horse in Fontainebleau, France. The combination was eliminated with FTC code at gate 4.

And again, the horse has been tested positive with the same Salbutamol (Controlled Medication Substance).

Clean Endurance made a post about this in June 2018:

Miquel Vila Ubach commented this post stating that he was surprised by the positive test result:

While the investigation was ongoing in this case, Miquel Vila Ubach participated in CEI2* 120 km Endurance ride in Pamiers on 17 November 2018.

Again, the horse TBO JOY won second place with an average speed of 21.7 km/h (the speed at the final loop was 31.6 km/h).

All people who are constantly saying that speed kills, say nothing about such high speed demonstrating by European riders!

Finally, on 6 September 2019, the FEI Tribunal published its decision on this case.

Pay attention to how this decision of the FEI Tribunal is covered by journalists!

For example, Pippa Cuckson loves to publish the articles about doping cases if the UAE horses or riders involved. But you won’t find any article from her about the ban of Miquel Vila Ubach.

Clean Endurance group also was very shy about this story – everything they published was the comment with the link to PDF file of the decision below their original post about the horse TBO JOY.

Marianne Ironside / Carol Hayter who was expelled from Clean Endurance and created the “separatist” Facebook page named Clean Endurance International published a post written by Jacques Nardin, French testing vet, with some important difference!

Spot the difference!

1. Post of Marianne Ironside / Carol Hayter on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/notes/clean-endurance-international/fei-equestrian-sports-salbutamol-testosterone-beta-blockers-psychotics-vasodilat/377245086523545/

The very important difference is that Marianne Ironside / Carol Hayter removed the link to the decision of the FEI Tribunal from her publication although this link is available in original post of Jacques Nardin. Why?

By the way, in the comments below the Carol Hayter’s post you can find her own explanation why the separate page named Clean Endurance International was created:

The only publication highlighting the case of horse TBO JOY is the article on website horsetalk.co.nz: https://www.horsetalk.co.nz/2019/09/11/sabotage-blamed-positive-drug-endurance-horse/

Click to enlarge the screenshot of full article:

Again, pay attention to the fact that neither Clean Endurance nor Clean Endurance International did not post this article on their Facebook pages. Why?

You can read the final decision of the FEI Tribunal here: https://inside.fei.org/system/files/Case%202018-CM09%20TBO%20JOY%20-%20Final%20Tribunal%20Decision%20-%206%20September%202019.pdf

Case 2018-CM09 TBO JOY – Final Tribunal Decision – 6 September 2019

We intentionally do not affirm whether Miquel Vila Ubach is guilty or not, we only publish the decision of the FEI Tribunal and show how some equestrian journalists, as well as Clean Endurance activists, do not cover this story.

You can draw your own conclusions!
